Bookkeeping Firm Rebrand Case Study

Client Overview:
JEA Bookkeeping is a strategic bookkeeping and financial support firm for growth-minded small business owners. Led by founder Erica Day, JEA helps eCommerce sellers, marketing agency owners, and coaches and consultants get clear on their numbers, master their cash flow, and keep more of what they earn. Using the Profit First methodology and a hands-on, systems-driven approach, Erica has helped business owners go from wondering where the money went to paying themselves consistently every month. Her clients loved the results. The brand? It hadn’t caught up.

Challenges:
JEA came to VC5 with a brand that never fully matured. The logo felt dated, the fonts lacked personality, and the overall look didn’t reflect the confidence and clarity Erica brings to every client relationship. The positioning was too broad, with no clear definition of who JEA served best and no single idea the brand owned. “Bookkeeping” sounds like a commodity, and commodities get compared on price. The work was transformational. The brand made it look transactional.

Creative Approach:
We started with strategy, not design. First, we identified JEA’s ideal client profiles: eCommerce sellers, agency owners, and coaches and consultants. These are owners with real revenue coming in, profit that never seems to show up, and no idea why.

That insight shaped the brand story. Most small business owners are in the dark when it comes to their finances. They work hard, the money comes in, and they still can’t see where it goes. JEA brings the light. And the story was hiding in plain sight, in Erica’s own name. With Erica Day, it’s a new day for your business, your cash flow, and your profits.

From there, everything pointed to one promise and one tagline: Becoming Permanently Profitable. Every creative decision, from the logo to the website copy, was made to move business owners from dark to day.

Key Components:

Strategy & ICP Development: We clarified exactly who JEA is built for and what they need most. Three defined ideal client profiles now guide every page, every offer, and every sales conversation, so the right prospects recognize themselves the moment they land on the site.

Brand Story: The “new day” story turns Erica’s name into the brand’s biggest asset. It names the problem (being in the dark about your finances) and the promise (a fresh start with clear numbers and real profit) in a way no other bookkeeper can copy. It gives the website, social content, and sales conversations one consistent, human narrative.

Tagline: “Becoming Permanently Profitable” names the outcome every client is really after. Not a good quarter. Not clean books. A business that stays profitable for good. It instantly separates JEA from firms that stop at data entry and tax prep.

Logo & Visual Identity: The new logo brings the story to life with a sun rising inside the mark, a visual signal that it’s a new day for every business JEA works with. The result is a cleaner, more modern logo with real meaning behind it, built to work across web, social, and print. A refreshed type system gives the brand a voice that feels approachable, sharp, and trustworthy, exactly how Erica shows up for her clients.

Brand Book: A complete brand book now documents logo usage, color, typography, and imagery, so JEA looks consistent at every touchpoint, whether Erica or her team is creating the content.

Brand Photography: A custom photo shoot captured Erica the way her clients experience her: warm, smart, and fully in command of the numbers. The result is a library of headshots and brand images that bring a real human face to a business built on trust.

Website Design & Development: We designed and built a website that walks visitors through the story, from being in the dark about cash flow and profit to JEA’s simple three-step path to clarity and growth. Client testimonials, a defined process, and clear calls to action work together to build trust and turn visitors into discovery calls.

Results:
JEA Bookkeeping now shows up the way Erica’s work always has, with clarity, confidence, and purpose. What was once an immature brand lost in a crowded market is now a focused, profit-driven brand with a story only Erica can tell, and a logo that tells it at a glance. Her expertise and her track record of real client transformations finally have a brand that matches them. For JEA, it’s a new day too.
